Yachay Airport

Yachay project was planned by Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa in 2013 as one of four 'Emblematic Universities', as part of his political project The Citizens' Revolution. it supposed to collaborate with public and private research institutions. The project  planned to have a 400 million dollar annual budget

With the expected direct connected passengers, the airport‘s operations and different service areas will be obsolete around 2020 or earlier. For this reason the Municipality of Yachay has initiated a study for the relocation of the airport and its logistic services within the city limits. The planning and projection of the new location has been determined to be within a 5 km radius of the existing facilities, and near the city’s central business district. This relocation would allow to reclassify the land where the airport currently stands.
